Herbal Essences Becomes First Mass Hair Care Brand in North America to Introduce Inclusive Bottle Design for People with Low to No Vision
Herbal Essences is producing the first-ever mass hair care bottle designed to make it easier for those with visual impairments to distinguish between shampoo and conditioner products through the sense of touch. The newly enhanced package has tactile indentations that will help differentiate the brand’s botanical shampoos from its conditioners in-shower given they share the same bottle shape, alleviating in-shower confusion. This enhancement was sparked by inclusive designer Sam Latif who is herself blind. Sam represent some of the 253 million people worldwide or 23 million people in the US today who face the challenges associated with vision impairment every day. In making our bio:renew botanical shampoos and conditioners more accessible, we can improve the experience for everyone to make your shower your happy place to experience the intoxicating experience of real botanicals to stimulate your senses. While we designed this tactile feature specifically for the visually impaired, others will also benefit from this feature- that is inclusive design. Help us spread the news about this new touch and tell feature, especially to those that will benefit the most! The shampoo bottles have 4 straight lines for shampoo and 2 rows of circles for conditioner at the bottom of the back of the bio:renew bottles. These features were purposely kept very simple and easy to differentiate by touch. The new Herbal Essences packaging will be available on Herbal Essences bio:renew botanical shampoo and conditioner bottles beginning January 2019 everywhere that the brand’s hair care products are currently sold.
Wash in power of real botanicals, endorsed by Kew, to bring botanical health to hair. The bio:renew line-up is botanist approved! Watch our segment on the Kathy Ireland show!
